    Here Comes Big Brother

I'm a little late with this one, but couldn't just let it slip by. Howard Weyers, president of Weyco, Inc announced a new company policy. The policy stated that smokers had 2 options- quit smoking or be fired. Not don't smoke on company time or don't smoke on company property, don't smoke anywhere at anytime. Yeah. So my question is- when did it become ok for a company to dictate what I do on MY OWN FUCKING TIME? Its none of their damn business what I do on my time. As long as I show up on time and do my job well, they should shut the fuck up. If I want to be a crack whore by night and an engineer by day, as long as I do my job its none of their fucking business.

In the artice, Weyers says "Rather than face the dangerous realities of smoking, critics of Weyco's tobacco-free policy rush to the so-called slippery slope argument, imagining all kinds of dire consequences for workers." Well, duh. Because we're on the slope jackass. This started with mandatory drug testing. Which is also bullshit, a complete waste of money and an invasion of my privacy. What I do on my time is none of your business. If someone shows up for work stoned, by all means fire them. But firing someone for smoking a joint on a weekend is stupid. Now its nicotine testing. Whats next, cholesterol testing? Mandatory exercise?

Obviously I'm a smoker. And yeah, I know it isn't good for me. But I'm an adult, I make my own choices, and its my body to do with what I please. I don't smoke in non smokers houses. If I'm going out with friends, I have no problem sitting in the non smoking section. I don't force anyone else to smoke. So shut the fuck up already.

    Heat Wave!

Its damn near 60° outside. No shit. How awesome is that! Awesome weekend topped off with a 60° Monday. Could only be better if it was 70. And I had the day off. Anyhoo, on to the traditional weekend update. Friday was pretty boring. I attempted to hook up my broadband phone service. I signed up for Vonage last week and got the router hickey Wednesday. I worked on it for about 3 hours Friday, then gave up and drank vodka till I didn't care if I had a damn phone or not. And now its Monday. And still no phone. Ah well. I'll continue the fight this evening. Rat bastards.

Saturday was much more noteworthy. The darling girlfriend and I went to check out the Carnegie International. We had a great time checkin out the art, then booked across the street for coffee and amazingly awesome iced chai before going to meet the girls at the Cheesecake Factory. Dinner was fun, but not at all worth the hour wait. The cheesecake was good, but not nearly worth $6+ a piece. The company however kicked ass. After dinner, we all headed down the street for gay bingo. We all lost. Then off to Donnys for a few cocktails, and finally home round 1am. Was a reeeaaaalllly long day, but much much fun. And I got brownie points for doin the artsy thing. Woot!

Sunday we lounged on the couch most of the afternoon, then went over to the girls' house for the superbowl party. A good time was had by all, even tho I was heinously tired from the previous evening. Left early, got home about 10ish. Went to bed round 11:30 and crashed hard.

This coming weekend the gf and I are road tripping to Philly. Can not wait. Friday we're visiting a friend but Saturday we'll have all afternoon and evening to check out the Philly scene. And the hotel is like 5 blocks from the big lesbian bar, so well within stumbling distance. Woot!
